Support for Developing Countries

Voice of a Certain Programmer B

Published 9/23/2024

In the previous two issues, we introduced voices from engineers we work with. Here is the last one.

He is a male engineer in his early twenties who is still a university student, but works to support his family. Like the others, his living situation has become difficult due to deteriorating political conditions in his country. Communication has been challenging due to his still-developing English skills, but with help from other team members, he has been learning and progressing with enthusiasm, which has inspired us to support him.

※He is based in his home country, so the project is being conducted online. ※Names and countries have been modified to prevent identification. The original text is in English.

Programmer B

"I truly appreciate you providing me with this opportunity. Due to the effects of inflation, my salary has not increased, and the situation is difficult for me. When I consider these hardships, your support is more valuable than ever, and I am deeply grateful for this opportunity.

Currently, I can only earn approximately 17,000 yen per month, and due to rising living costs, I struggle with my monthly finances. I don't have enough money to adequately support my family. Additionally, I want to improve my English conversation skills and be able to speak without hesitation. That's why I plan to allocate 60% to English courses and use the remainder for my family.

By participating in this project, I have gained valuable knowledge about coding and project-related matters. If there is an opportunity, I would like to participate in more projects in the future.

Usui has been very supportive—patiently answering my questions, explaining what I needed to know, and providing tremendous assistance. Especially in the early stages when I had many questions about the project, his support was invaluable, and being able to ask questions directly in meetings made a big difference."
